There are plenty of websites online that are the internet home of various accountants and business advisers. Brebners is just one of these, and like many similar sites they offer a certain degree of advice and useful pages for their visitors, as well as offering their main services.
Where can I find the website and what topics does it cover?
The Brebners website address is very easy to remember and find – it’s at www.brebners.com. It has a simple appearance but it is clear from a basic perusal of the site that the company offers a huge range of very important services.
They are not simply accountants; there are many other services on offer here as well. And perhaps most usefully there is an information centre which online visitors will find particularly interesting.
How do I find the VAT calculator?
This is located within the information centre mentioned above. You can reach this by glancing down the menu on the left hand side of the site. Once you have clicked on the link and you are there, scroll down and click on the link that says ‘go to calculators’.
The VAT calculator is the second one down on the left hand side of the huge selection given. You can enter it from there, but to get to it directly you will need to visit the following address – www.brebners.com/common/calculators/vat.html.
How do I use it?
This works out VAT at the standard rate. The calculator has been very cleverly created to let you work out more than one calculation without having to swap and use another VAT calculator. By marking either the yes or no circle, you will be able to calculate the exact amount you need for your purposes.
All you need to do is enter your figure in the first box, and then indicate whether that amount includes VAT or not. So if you have the gross figure and you want to know how much of that is attributable to VAT, you should make sure the ‘yes’ option is filled in. Conversely if all you have is the amount without VAT, you should fill in the ‘no’ option.
Once that is done you just need to click on the calculate button and the VAT calculator will work its magic for you. If your amount does not include VAT already, the starting amount and the net amount given should be the same. If you have the gross amount though, then the starting amount and the gross amounts should be the same. This is a simple way to double check you have got the yes or no bit spot on!
Is there anything else I should be aware of?
There is a useful if short list of information underneath the VAT calculator which gives you a few lines of data about current VAT matters. This could be useful if you are considering registering, or you are wondering just how close to the registration threshold you really are.
The standard and reduced rates of VAT will also be listed here, and any relevant notes will be included too. Obviously if you are not sure about any particular matter, you should always consult your own accountant or adviser. Brebners do not support this calculator; it is merely provided for people to use if they find it helpful.
The world of VAT can be a confusing one at times, but there is no doubt that this calculator can be useful. Bear in mind as well that there are a number of other calculators on the website that are intended for business owners. Why stop at this one?
